Launched in 2013, the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar was A. Lange & Söhne’s first attempt at combining the most daunting complications of high horology. Visible through the exhibition caseback, the movement’s column wheel architecture is reminiscent of the Datograph’s famous L951.1 calibre that shook the world of high horology. But with the addition of a split-seconds complication and perpetual calendar, this 1815’s movement is vastly more complex, featuring 631 individual parts. Everything is hand-finished to the utmost degree, with perfect straight graining and bevels that reflect like mirrors, as well as classic Lange hallmarks like the hand-engraved balance cock and screwed gold chatons.

The sterling silver dial owes its four-register layout to the pocketwatch era, but with signature A. Lange & Sohne design cues and distinct German austerity. Despite the watch having no less than eleven hands, it is extremely legible, and the solid gold moonphase disc provides the perfect accent.
